Jeff Dawson will be spending his second summer with us at JPVIS as our Head Tennis Director. Jeff is a recent graduate, class of ’09, from Yale University where he held the top singles position and was captain on a NCAA Division 1 nationally ranked team. Upon graduation he entered the professional tour where he traveled the country and practiced with many top 10 touring professionals. After receiving professional status as a ranked ATP player, Jeff returned to school to focus on a medical career. As a summer teaching professional, he has much experience with adults and children alike. His experience as a top USTA national junior, college player, and ATP touring professional, affords him great perspective to the game of tennis.

This summer, Jeff plans to keep the core clinics that have served the JPVIS community well but also plans on adding many other clinics after evaluating interest level. His hands on approach, in both clinics and privates alike, afford the player knowledge in many stroke specific areas and match time tactics. The juniors can expect a fun but also very concentrated effort on doing the things necessary to improve one’s tennis game. Aligning with the California way of teaching, the juniors will improve as they gain much experience in junior club matches. Jeff wants to drive participation and take everybody’s game to the next level with a unique personalized summer plan. Stop by to discuss!

The children’s program will be engineered to instill the root mechanics at a critical age for learning. Whether a beginner or advanced, Jeff’s staff and he offer great instruction while building friendships and having the outmost fun. He strives for tennis to be ‘their’ favorite activity by the time they walk off the court.

Contact and Court Information

JPVIS maintains four clay courts that are open from approximately mid-June to late September. Hours of play are from 8 AM to sunset, with mens’ and ladies’ tennis every day, clinics and private lessons available as well. The courts are closed as needed for watering, most typically at noon each day. Throughout the summer there are also Junior tennis matches, and several tournaments for the membership. A small Pro-shop is located in the Director’s cottage adjacent to the courts, offering balls, restringing, and some tennis attire.
